Buy One For A Neighbor (BOFAN)
Buy One For A Neighbor (BOFAN)
Buy One For A Neighbor (BOFAN) is an innovative, cutting edge effort to help local farmers thrive and provide fresh produce to neighbors in need. We set up booths at area farmers’ markets and ask shoppers to buy an extra bag or bunch something to donate on the spot.
As soon as the market ends, we immediately distribute the produce directly to neighbors while it’s still just-picked fresh. Shoppers like buying extra produce from the farmers and feel good sharing it with others.
Farmers love it because it’s a new stream of revenue. And, of course, the neighbors who get the fresh vegetables surely do appreciate that someone chose it to share with them.
We have the power to build a stronger local food system and help struggling families during these hard times. As the industrial food system continues to fray, we need to develop comprehensive, achievable programs to relocalize food production and build a more just, sustainable food future.
